NCCU Law’s Associate Dean April Dawson to Moderate upcoming panel discussion on racial equality in Criminal Justice

The NC Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice – Learning Session 1: Race, Data, and Policing

Law enforcement agencies are increasingly relying on data and predictive analytics to make policing decisions. However, the reliance on data and algorithms in this way can have the unintended consequence of exacerbating the racial discrimination and disparity in the criminal legal system. This panel discussion will explore the problems associated with the uninformed use of data in the criminal legal system and explore how to harness data in a way that improves society without reinforcing disparate outcomes.

Discussion participants:

Moderator: April Dawson, Associate Dean of Technology and Innovation and Professor of Law at NC Central University

  • Panelist: Brandon Garrett, L. Neil Williams, Jr. Professor of Law at Duke University
  • Panelist: Arvind Krishnamurthy, PhD Candidate in Political Science at Duke University

Note: The Zoom seats are sold out, but the event will be live-streamed and can be viewed on YouTube. The YouTube link can be found in the event link.
