Mario “Be” Benavente narrowly defeated Councilman Antonio B. Jones in the District 3 Fayetteville City Council race Tuesday, according to unofficial results.
Benavente won by six votes out of more than 2,000 cast in the district. He received 1,012 votes, or 49.9%. Jones won 1,006, or 49.61%. There were 10 write-in votes.
Jones was appointed to the District 3 seat in December.
Benavente, who recently earned his law degree from N.C. Central University, helped found the Fayetteville Millennial Advisory Commission.
