Biography
Sharon Newsome Gaskin is a native North Carolinian. Following graduation from Charles B. Aycock High School in Wayne County, she enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her B.A. in French Education. After teaching high school French for several years, she matriculated to the Campbell University School of Law and received her J.D. in 1997.
After passing the bar, Dean Gaskin opened her own law practice where, for ten years, she primarily handled matters involving criminal defense, real estate closings, and estate planning. Over the years, she has also worked as an adjunct professor in the criminal justice department at North Carolina A&T State University. In 2007, she joined the administration at the Elon University School of Law as the assistant dean of admissions. Dean Gaskin also worked for Wells Fargo as a vice president & senior fiduciary administrator in the wealth management department managing charitable trusts. Most recently, she worked at Guilford College as the director of planned giving.
During her professional career, Dean Gaskin has been a member of various organizations and served on many committees including: the American Bar Asociation, the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers, the Minorities in the Profession Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Finance & Legal Committee of Law School Admission Council (LSAC), the Investment Committee of LSAC, the Diversity Committee of LSAC, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Wells Fargo Diversity & Inclusion Council, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Dean Gaskin’s interests include reading for pleasure, singing, running, and caring for her daughter and son.
