Biography

Sandra English, an Ohio native, received her undergraduate degree in history from Ursuline College.  Dean English obtained her joint Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration degrees from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and Maxine Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.   

Prior to joining North Carolina Central School of Law as Dean of Career Services and Professional Development, Ms. English served as the Senior Manager for the CEEL (Center for Engineering Experiential Learning) Office at the Washkewicz College of Engineering, Cleveland State University (CSU) for nine years. In this role, she promoted and presented on concepts and best practices of cooperative education to students, faculty and employers. Ms. English assisted and participated on the CSU Washkewicz College of Engineering’s Diversity Council to implement programs and initiatives that reflect the Dean’s commitment to diversity. She advised CSU NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) and SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) student chapters.

Prior to joining Cleveland State University, Ms. English was an Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor. She joined CSU in 2008 as the Assistant Director of Law Admissions and Multicultural Recruitment at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. As a result of Ms. English’s efforts, the law school received the first Law School Admission Council (LSAC) National “Diversity Matters” Award in June of 2010. She also served as staff advisor for the National Black Law Student Association (NBLSA) and the Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA). Cleveland State University awarded Ms. English with the Distinguished Service Award for professional staff and the Alumni Association presented Ms. English with Golden Apple Award recognizing her contributions as an outstanding staff member in the lives of CSU students two years in a row.

Dean English is licensed in Ohio and during her professional career has been active in several professional associations: National Association for Law Placement (NALP), American Bar Association (ABA), Ohio Bar Association (OBA), North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA), American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and the Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration (CIEC).
