Agu Onuma, SBA PResident 2009-2010

July 20, 2009
Hello NCCU Law,

I hope everyone is enjoying their time away from school this summer. However, I wanted to send out a message to all rising 3L, 3LE, 4LE that North Carolina Rules (2) will be offered in the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters. This course  is taught by Judge E. Fullwood, and it reviews the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence. I highly recommend the course for Bar Examination purposes. I have received excellent remarks from the 2009 graduates about the course and I am sure it will make a difference in being successful for the Bar Examination in any State.

Best regards,

Agu Onuma
SBA President.

SONNY HAYNES NAMED 2008-09 WOMBLE CARLYLE SCHOLAR

September 26, 2008
Sonny Haynes, a student at the North Carolina Central School of Law, has been named a Womble Carlyle Scholar by Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC.

Haynes is a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where she earned a BA in communication studies. Currently, she is the Treasurer of the Black Law Student Association at North Carolina Central. Recently, she earned first place in the Mary Wright 1L Trial Advocacy Competition.  She worked in Womble Carlyle’s Winston-Salem office as a summer clerk in 2008. Sonny also is a North Carolina Real Estate Broker.

The Womble Carlyle Scholars Program was established in 2004 to honor minority second-year law school students for their academic credentials, participation in community service and achievement outside the classroom. The program is designed to increase participation in the bar by traditionally underrepresented groups.

Womble Carlyle scholars each receive an $8,000 scholarship, as well as an offer of summer employment as a summer associate.

To date, five former Womble Carlyle Scholars are employed with the firm as full-time attorneys.

“The Womble Carlyle Scholars Program has been a tremendous success, and we believe this outstanding group of Scholars will only add to that legacy,” said Gloria Agard, the firm’s Director of Diversity and Workplace Initiatives.
