Biography

Kia H. Vernon is a native of Greenville, North Carolina. She graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina Central University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with certification to teach grades K-12. After four years of teaching High School Spanish in Wilson and Greenville, North Carolina, she returned to North Carolina Central University in 1997 to pursue her law degree. In 2000, she graduated with honors from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

Upon graduation, Professor Vernon gained valuable experience in the private sector at Blake and Vernon, PLLC, a small law firm in Cary, North Carolina specializing in Family Law and Real Estate Transactions. Subsequently, she opened her own office, Vernon Law Group, PLLC, and continued to serve the legal needs of clients in the triangle area.

In 2007, Professor Vernon returned to teaching, serving as an Adjunct Professor at North Carolina Central University School of Law, teaching Legal Reasoning and Analysis, Legal Research and Persuasion and Spanish for Lawyers. In 2009, she joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor. She teaches Contracts I, Contracts II, Spanish for Lawyers, Family Relations and Reproductive Rights.

Professor Vernon is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, Wake County Bar Association, and Society of American Law Teachers (SALT).
