Biography

Shirley E. Faulkner-Springfield is a writing specialist in the Legal Writing Program of the North Carolina Central University School of Law. Professor Faulkner-Springfield earned a Doctor of Philosophy in English (writing and rhetoric) from Bowling Green State University. She earned a Master of Arts in English (Summa Cum Laude) and a Bachelor of Arts in English (Magna Cum Laude) from North Carolina Central University (NCCU). Professor Faulkner-Springfield teaches first-year writing in the Department of Language and Literature at NCCU. Since 2007, she has taught writing in the Duke University Summer Biomedical Sciences Institute (formally Summer Medical and Dental Education Program) where she also directs the writing program.

Professor Faulkner-Springfield’s publications have appeared in Computers and Composition Online (2014), Feminist Teacher (2014), and Reflections: Writing, Service-Learning, and Community Literacy (2011). In 2018, a chapter about her family history project will appear in Serendipity in Rhetoric, Writing, and Literacy Research.
