Shirley E. Faulkner-Springfield is a Writing Specialist in the Legal Writing Center in the North Carolina Central University School of Law.

Dr. Faulkner-Springfield earned a Doctor of Philosophy in English (writing and rhetoric) from Bowling Green State University. She also earned a Master of Arts in English (Summa Cum Laude) and a Bachelor of Arts in English (Magna Cum Laude) from North Carolina Central University (NCCU).

Dr. Faulkner-Springfield directed the Writing Studio in the NCCU English Department during the summers of 2015, 2016, and 2017, and she worked as a writing consultant in the Writing Studio for two years. Dr. Faulkner-Springfield has taught a variety of writing courses such as professional writing, technical writing, advanced composition, foundations of teaching writing for pre-service teachers, and first-year writing at NCCU, Virginia State University, and Bowling Green State University. Since 2007, she has taught professional writing in the Duke University Summer Biomedical Sciences Institute where she also directs its writing program for rising sophomore and junior pre-health college students. Dr. Faulkner-Springfield also edits the Institute’s annual publication titled WiMEzine.

Her publications appear in Serendipity in Rhetoric, Writing, and Literacy Research (2018), Computers and Composition Online (2014), Feminist Teacher (2014), and Reflections: Writing, Service-Learning, and Community Literacy (2011).

In her spare time, Dr. Faulkner-Springfield writes, reads, creates art, and explores former slave plantations and other historical sites.
