Judge Carolyn J. Thompson

Announcement: On April 24, 2018, Governor Roy Cooper appointed the Honorable Carolyn J. Thompson as a Superior Court Judge in the 9th Judicial District, serving Vance, Warren, Granville, and Franklin counties. She replaces Senior Resident Superior Court Judge, Robert H. Hobgood, who is retiring at the end of April.

Judge Thompson has served a District Court Judge in District 9 since 2009, where she presides over civil, domestic, criminal, juvenile, and mental health proceedings. She has also served as a mentor and volunteer for teen and truancy courts. Judge Thompson is an ordained and licensed minister serving as an associate minister at Cornerstone Christian Community Church in Oxford.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Hampton University and a Juris Doctor degree from North Carolina Central University. Judge Thompson has received numerous awards and recognition for her community service, mentoring and commitment to serving our community. She is a member of several community service focused organizations to include the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Franklin County Domestic Violence Task Force; Oxford League of Women Voters; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Nu Chi Omega Chapter; and Oxford Chapter of Les Gemmes, Inc.

Judge Thompson will be sworn in as a Superior Court Judge on May 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Granville County Superior Courtroom. The event is opened to the public.
