The Pro Bono Clinic offers second and third year students an opportunity to develop their practical legal skills through a supervised work experience with a public interest law organization that serves low-income or disadvantaged North Carolinians. Pro Bono Clinic students work a minimum of 45 hours at a placement arranged and monitored by the Pro Bono Program director. Placement options include a range of non-profit public interest law organizations and government agencies.  In-house projects include the NCCU Innocence Project and VITA(Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)  Project; or students may develop their own pro bono placement or project, with approval of the Pro Bono Director.

Pro Bono Clinic students provide valuable volunteer assistance to these often under-funded and under-staffed organizations as they gain insight into the realities of public interest lawyering and expand their knowledge of substantive and procedural law in the area of their placement. The Pro Bono Clinic is a 1-semester, 1-credit hour pass-fail course and is open to 2L, 3L, 3LE and 4LE students.
